Melanie Felvus
RECE, Casa Montessori Diploma
Executive Director
Melanie is the owner and Executive Director of Your Preschools Inc. She envisioned starting a high-quality program in Smithville in 2006, inspired by the Montessori method during her Early Childhood Education studies at Mohawk College. Melanie began her career working in daycare and preschool programs and then gained experience at two Montessori schools before opening her own. Her personal experience with the high cost of Montessori education for her daughter motivated her commitment to providing affordable, high-quality early learning programs for families.
She lives in Grassie with her husband, Mike, and daughters, Micaela and Madelyn. Outside of the schools, Melanie enjoys going for walks, spending time with family and friends, and supporting her community. She remains deeply committed to nurturing children, supporting her staff, and ensuring the Montessori philosophy remains at the heart of YPI.

Alia Wall
RECE, Casa Montessori Diploma
Director
Alia is the Director of Your Preschools Inc. and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership through Sheridan College. She has been an integral part of the organization for 18 years, starting as a parent of an SCP student and later becoming the French teacher. Over the years, Alia has worn many hats, including support staff, classroom teacher at the Smithville, Dunnville, and Vineland locations, and earning her ECE diploma through Mohawk College as well as her Casa Montessori diploma. For the past several years, she has served as Director, supporting all sites, staff, and students in an administrative capacity.
She lives in Fenwick with her husband, Josh, and their three daughters. Outside of work, Alia enjoys spending time outdoors, reading, and traveling. She is passionate about fostering a positive learning environment for both children and staff, and ensuring that the mission and values of YPI continue to thrive across all sites.

Becca Barnes
RECE, Toddler Montessori Diploma
Administrative Staff
Becca holds a diploma in Early Childhood Education from Algonquin College as well as a Toddler Montessori diploma. She has worked in a variety of childcare and school environments with children of all ages, taking on roles such as kindergarten educator, educational assistant, infant/toddler childcare provider, and school-age program supervisor. These experiences have allowed her to develop a wide range of skills that support her work in the classroom. Becca is passionate about incorporating creative movement into learning, drawing on her extensive background as a dance teacher. She is always looking for new ways to bring engaging and unique experiences to the children in her care.
She lives in her hometown of Dunnville with her two dogs. Outside of work, Becca enjoys spending time with family and friends, swimming, gardening, and going for walks.

Briar Kikkert
Toddler Montessori Diploma
Toddler Educator, Extended Care (pm)
This is Briar’s second year being employed by Your Preschools Inc. although she is no stranger to the way that it operates as she did her Grade 11 co-op with us! She is fresh out of high school and looking forward to gaining more experience working full time with toddlers. She is currently working on obtaining her infant/toddler Montessori diploma. She has a great deal of experience with children from working at a summer camp for the past four summers, as well as babysitting and nannying, to doing two high school co-ops at local preschools. She currently resides with her parents and three younger sisters on a chicken farm in West Lincoln. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, family and friends, going for a run, playing soccer or finding something to clean/organize.

Sarah McKeen
HBA Communications & Sociology
Toddler Educator, Extended Care (am)
Sarah holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Sociology from the University of Toronto. With many years of experience working with children in schools, churches, and childcare settings, she brings both compassion and dedication to her work. Sarah has an ongoing passion for Montessori education and is excited to be part of Your Preschools Inc.
She lives on a hobby farm in Wainfleet with her husband, their two daughters, and their Opa. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys traveling and exploring new places with her family, baking, reading, and soaking in the sounds of her musically gifted family as they play guitar, piano, cello, and sing songs of worship.

Kayla Dressel
RECE
Toddler Educator, Extended Care (am & pm)
Kayla graduated from Niagara College in 2012 with her Early Childhood Education diploma. She has worked in the childcare field for over 13 years, including operating her own home childcare centre for more than five years. Since then, she has gained experience in licensed childcare programs, working with children from infancy through school age. Kayla is eager to expand her knowledge of Montessori education and looks forward to becoming an active part of the Your Preschools Inc. community.
She lives in Port Colborne with her husband, whom she married in 2018, and their two children. Outside of work, Kayla enjoys playing volleyball, spending time up north at her family cottage, and four-wheeling with her family. She especially loves being outdoors and creating lasting memories with those closest to her.

Jamie Switzer
Casa One Educator, Extended Care (am & pm)
first joined our preschool community in 2017 as a parent and soon after began supporting classrooms by covering lunch breaks and supplying at our Smithville location. She later gained additional experience at our Dunnville site, steadily taking on more hours and in-class responsibilities. When our Grassie location opened in 2022, Jamie became a full-time team member. After three years there, she is returning to Dunnville as she pursues new opportunities within our program. Jamie is also working toward her Early Childhood Education diploma and looks forward to graduating this April.
She lives with her husband and their three children on a small hobby farm where they raise cattle and chickens. Outside of work, Jamie enjoys being active in the community, spending time outdoors, and supporting her children in their extracurricular activities.

Avaiah DeVries
Casa One Educator, Extended Care (am & pm)
discovered her passion for working with children through her role as a gymnastics coach, where she spent three years leading camps and working with children at both recreational and competitive levels. This experience sparked her interest in early learning and inspired her to pursue a career in childcare. Now in her first year at Your Preschools Inc., she is excited to bring her energy, creativity, and love of learning into the classroom while continuing to grow in her understanding of Montessori education.
She begins each day with an early morning workout and quiet time reading her Bible with a coffee in hand. In her free time, Avaiah enjoys spending time with family and friends, exploring nature on long walks, and finding new opportunities to stay active. She looks forward to building meaningful relationships with children and families and making a positive impact as part of the Your Preschools Inc. team.

Reese Mitchell
AEL
Casa Two Educator, Extended Care (am & pm)
Reese is in her second year with Your Preschools Inc., working in Casa Two and Extended Care at our Dunnville location. She brings experience as an ECE assistant and has volunteered at children’s summer camps in addition to years of babysitting. Reese previously earned her diploma in Adventure Expeditions and Interpretive Leadership from Fanshawe College, and she is eager to continue her studies toward both her Montessori and Early Childhood Education diplomas. She loves the Montessori way of learning and is excited to keep growing in her role.
She lives in Dunnville with her two dogs and cat. Outside of work, Reese enjoys spending time outdoors with family and friends, swimming, camping, exploring new places, scrapbooking, and reading.

Trish Vandervelde
RECE
Casa Two Educator, Extended (am & pm)
Trish graduated as a Registered Early Childhood Educator in 2018 and has worked in childcare for seven years. After recently moving to Dunnville, she is excited to join Casa 2 and to continue learning the Montessori approach while sharing her experience, enthusiasm, and love for working with children.
She lives in Dunnville with her mother and two dogs. Outside of work, Trish keeps busy playing baseball and volleyball, enjoying walks with her dogs, swimming, and traveling when she can. She also treasures her time with her large extended family, where she is an aunt to 15 and a great-aunt to nearly 30.

Kelsi de Jong
Extended Care (am & pm), Lunch Staff
Kelsi joined our preschool family in 2022 when her daughter began attending and started supporting classrooms in 2023 through extended care while her son was also enrolled. After taking a year of maternity leave, Kelsi has returned to YPI in the floater role, bringing her energy and dedication to support classrooms across the program. She has always had a passion for caring for others, drawing on her years of experience as a Personal Support Worker and as an Occupational Therapist Assistant/Physiotherapist Assistant.
She lives with her family and their two dogs. Outside of work, Kelsi enjoys spending time with her children, watching them play sports, and going for walks with her dogs.

Meagan Clark
RECE, Casa Montessori Diploma
Site Supervisor - Educator
Maegan first experienced the benefits of early childhood education when her son began attending preschool in 2014, followed by her daughter in 2017. She witnessed firsthand the care and dedication of the staff, which inspired her to pursue a career in the field. Maegan obtained her Early Childhood Education diploma through Mohawk College and completed her Casa Montessori diploma. She has also worked as a lunchtime supervisor, driven a school bus, and volunteered in classrooms, bringing a wealth of experience to her role as site supervisor.
She lives on a hobby farm with her husband and their four children, where they care for horses and enjoy farm life. Outside of work, Maegan spends her time on the farm and supporting her children in activities like basketball, gymnastics, and baseball.

Kara Nichol
RECE
Educator
Kara is a mother of five and has been involved with our preschool since the early days, when her two sons attended the original Smithville location. She holds an Early Childhood Education diploma from Sheridan College and has been a Registered Early Childhood Educator since 2009. Kara has worked as a Head Teacher in a Toddler classroom and has operated her own home daycare since 2013, supporting children with special needs while raising her own family. She is currently pursuing the Behavioral Sciences and Autism Course through Algonquin College and has completed numerous workshops supporting children with diverse needs, including Pivotal Response Training, PECS, More Than Words, and Sensory Processing Disorder. Kara is also skilled in Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) for children with limited verbal communication.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and finding new ways to support and inspire children in her care.

Brooke Feddema
Educator
Brooke joined our preschool family in 2022 when her son began attending. She initially supported classrooms through lunch coverage and supply work, which led to her joining the team at the Grassie location. Brooke brings a passion for caring for others from her previous experience in childcare and as a Personal Support Worker. She is excited to continue her career in the Montessori environment and further her education in early childhood education.
She lives with her family and enjoys spending time outdoors, being active, and creating meaningful learning experiences for the children in her care.

Sophie Mumford
BA Psychology
Educator
Sophie joined Your Preschools Inc. in 2023 as casual supply staff, primarily at our Vineland location. She holds a degree in Psychology from Carleton University and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Education. Sophie has always enjoyed working with children and also spent seven months in Australia as a live-in nanny for an 18-month-old child.
She lives with her family and enjoys CrossFit, running, cooking, baking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Kathryn Cairns
Educator
Kathryn joined Your Preschools Inc. in 2024 as a support staff and supply teacher. She is currently studying Child and Youth Studies at Brock University and plans to pursue a Bachelor of Education to become an elementary school teacher. Kathryn brings experience from multiple elementary schools and volunteering with children, which has helped her develop skills in supporting children’s learning and growth. She is dedicated to creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment and is eager to learn and grow alongside the team.
She enjoys spending time up north at the lake with her family and dogs, attending hockey games, staying active at the gym, and spending time with friends while keeping up with her schoolwork.

Lexie Travis
Lunch Staff/Supply Educator
Lexie is in her second year with Your Preschools Inc., having first joined the preschool family in 2022 when her oldest son began attending, soon followed by her other son. Previously, she worked with children as a school bus driver and now enjoys supporting their growth and progress in the classroom.
She lives with her family and enjoys crafts, baking, being outdoors, and spending quality time together.

Karen Wilcox
RECE, Casa Montessori Diploma
Site Supervisor - Casa Two Educator, Extended Care (am)
Karen completed her Early Childhood Education diploma at Niagara College and has over 20 years of experience in the field. She began her career working for the Region of Halton before transitioning to roles closer to home in Smithville. Karen spent many years as the Site Supervisor at West Lincoln EarlyON, leading and developing programs for children ages 0–6 and supporting parents in understanding early childhood development. She also completed the Casa Montessori Diploma program and is excited to continue to integrate this knowledge into her work at YPI.
She lives in Smithville with her husband, daughter, and cat. Outside of work, Karen enjoys camping, kayaking, and spending time with friends and family. She is also looking forward to watching her first grandson continue grow and learn!

Dana Burke
RECE
Casa One Educator, Extended Care (pm)
Dana holds an Early Childhood Education diploma from Mohawk College and is in her second year with Your Preschools Inc. She previously spent 12 years working at a childcare facility in Hamilton, providing care for children ranging from infants to school age. Dana also served as a Program Leader for one year, supporting colleagues and families while handling administrative responsibilities. Dana continues to grow in her Montessori knowledge and enjoys this approach to teaching.
She lives with her husband and two daughters. Outside of work, Dana enjoys writing, painting, reading, and spending quality time with her family.

Melissa Karrandjas
Casa One Educator
Melissa has always had a passion for working with young children. She began tutoring elementary school students in high school and worked winters at a local ski resort daycare. She later worked as a supply Educational Assistant for the Peel board and as a Personal Support Worker for children with special needs. After taking time off to focus on her family, Melissa has returned to the classroom, excited to pursue her Casa Montessori diploma while doing what she loves.
Melissa is married and a mother to one daughter and three sons. Outside of school, she enjoys cheering her children on at hockey, lacrosse, and cheerleading events, as well as running and staying active.

Casa Two Educator, Extended Care (am & pm)
Micaela (“Miss Mic”) attended our Smithville school when it opened in 2006 and is now in her fourth year as an educator. She previously taught at our Dunnville location before taking a position closer to home. Micaela has completed both her Infant/Toddler and Casa Montessori diplomas and is currently working toward her Early Childhood Education diploma. She previously earned a Veterinary Technician diploma before pursuing a career in early childhood education.
She lives in Grassie with her parents, sister, and cat. Outside of work, Micaela enjoys playing softball, spending time with her long-term boyfriend, family, and friends, and keeping up with her schoolwork.

Leah Bohlken
Lunch Staff/Supply Educator
Leah joined Your Preschools Inc. in 2024 and assists the Smithville classes with lunch coverage, preparing healthy snacks, and maintaining a welcoming environment. Before joining YPI, she spent 13 years as a school bus driver, a stay-at-home mom, and ran her family poultry farm. These experiences taught her flexibility, organization, and how to pitch in wherever needed. Leah brings a positive attitude and a team-focused approach to every situation.
She lives locally with her family and enjoys contributing to the preschool community while sharing her energy and enthusiasm with children and colleagues alike.

Colleen Minor
RECE, ERSN, Casa Montessori Diploma
Toddler Educator
Colleen is a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) and a Niagara Scholar, holding a diploma in Educational Resources and Special Needs (ERSN). She also completed her Montessori Early Childhood Teacher Training Program at the North American Montessori Center (NAMC) and is currently working toward her Infant/Toddler Montessori Diploma. Colleen began her career at Smithville Christian Preschool as support staff, later serving as a supervisor at Vineland Christian Preschool, and then transitioning to Grassie Christian Preschool to work with smaller groups in the Primary Caregiver (pods) model. This fall, she is excited to join Spring Creek Christian Preschool in the toddler classroom.
She lives in Smithville with her husband, a local farmer, and their two children. Outside of work, Colleen enjoys cheering on her son’s hockey team, traveling with her family, and exploring new places and adventures. She is passionate about fostering curiosity, independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning in every child, creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where children can thrive.

Lisa Leenstra
Toddler Educator
Lisa first discovered the Montessori method when she enrolled a foster child at the Vineland preschool and was inspired by the calm, caring environment. After joining the school as a supply teacher, she is now excited to begin teaching at the new location. Lisa brings over 20 years of experience homeschooling her own children, as well as working as a nanny, foster parent, and in office administration, combining practical experience with a heartfelt love for children.
She lives in Vineland with her husband and youngest son. Outside of work, Lisa enjoys spending time outdoors, being with family and friends, and cherishing moments with her five grown children and six grandchildren.

Leslie Brink

Toddler Educator
Leslie holds a degree in Social Work from Redeemer University and has worked with children in a variety of settings, including group homes, schools, churches, and homes. She has been part of the VCP team since March 2023 and brings her experience and compassion to every classroom she supports.
She is married to Mike and they have four children. Outside of work, Leslie enjoys spending time with her family and contributing to the growth and development of children in her care.

Johanna Owen

Casa Educator, Extended Care (am & pm)
Johanna holds an Early Childhood Education diploma from Mohawk College and has 25 years of experience working with children of all ages in a variety of childcare settings. For the past eight years, she ran a successful home daycare, caring for children ranging from infants to school age. Johanna is excited to join the Your Preschools Inc. family at the Spring Creek location and is working toward her Montessori certification.
She lives in Grimsby with her husband, Grant, and their two children. Outside of work, Johanna enjoys cheering on her favourite football team, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Larissa Potstra
RECE
Casa Educator, Extended Care (am & pm)
has been part of the Your Preschools Inc. community since 2023. She graduated from Georgian College in 2022 and also studied at Heritage Bible College. Prior to joining YPI, Larissa worked at another preschool in St. Catharines and has experience working with children through camps, nannying, and teaching swimming lessons. She enjoys seeing each child’s personality shine in the classroom and is committed to supporting their growth and learning.
She lives in St. Catharines with her husband, Jared. Outside of work, Larissa runs a micro-bakery called Forget Me Not Breads & Bakes and enjoys spending time with family and friends.

Tamara Wartman
RECE, Casa Montessori Diploma
Site Supervisor - Educator
holds an Early Childhood Education diploma from Niagara College and has extensive experience working with children of all ages in childcare centers and as an RECE in Kindergarten classrooms for the District School Board of Niagara. She also has experience supporting children with exceptional needs and has spent over six years planning and leading the Kindergarten program for Bible Day Camp at her church. Tamara is passionate about providing children with support, encouragement, and learning opportunities to foster their growth and development, and she is excited to be part of the Your Preschools Inc. team.
She lives in Beamsville with her husband and two sons. Outside of work, Tamara enjoys spending time with family and friends and going for walks.

Crystal Cann
HBA Recreation & Leisure
Educator
Crystal first became familiar with Your Preschools Inc. as a parent and saw firsthand the benefits of the Montessori approach. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Recreation and Leisure and has extensive experience working with children through her church’s children’s ministry, volunteering at her children’s school, and serving as a noon hour supervisor for the DSBN. Crystal is enthusiastic about applying what she has learned and continuing to grow alongside the children and staff at YPI.
She lives in Smithville with her husband and two sons. Outside of work, Crystal enjoys cheering on her children at hockey and soccer games, going for walks, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Kim Veehuis
Educator
Kim joined Your Preschools Inc. in 2024 and has recently transitioned into a permanent classroom role at our Vineland location. She is currently working toward her diploma in Early Childhood Education. She previously worked as support staff and supply teacher across multiple sites, gaining experience in various childcare settings, including the YMCA. Kim finds joy in helping children learn through both their classroom activities and social interactions, and she brings enthusiasm and dedication to her work every day.
She enjoys spending time with her family, niece, and nephews outside of work.
